Museum organizers set up a special display for Rainier historian Eleanor Abraham. Abraham was 95 when she wrote her last publication, "Rainier Daze of 59," in 2006.

The Rainier Oregon Historical Museum just got a huge boost to their foundation.

The Friends of Paul Bunyan Grant has awarded the museum with $9,000 to create a logging exhibit. Museum leaders plan to create a large exhibit to show how the logging industry was an early influence of the city's growth, said Kay Heflin, president of the Rainier Oregon Historical Museum.

The museum held its soft opening during the Rainier Days in the Parks events at Rainier City Hall on July 8 and July 9. Since then Heflin said they have received more donations, including more items for their Rainier Soap Factory exhibit.

Though they continue to share their space, which is also a community room for City Hall, Heflin said they will still schedule special events throughout August and September.

"We hope to work with the city and create a day that we can be open on a regular scheduled day and time," Heflin said. "Until then we are scheduling these special events."

On Saturday, July 29, the museum will feature class photos and memorabilia from the Rainier High School Class of '67 from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be another reunion event set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at Beaver Homes Grange.

In attendance will be the Thomas, Swatman, Grimshaw, Thompson, and several other families, according to Tiffany Trahan, Rainier Oregon Historical Museum board member. There will be a spaghetti feed with a suggested $5 donation. They will also have a computer and scanner for anyone who wishes to bring old photos.
